Keeper Saha wanted to train under Vijay Yadav, BCCI says no
.
The Wriddhiman Saha affair is getting curioser by the day. Supposedly the best wicketkeeper in the country, the 32-Test veteran has not played an international game for over a year and a competitive match since the IPL in May last year. Now his return to India side looks a bumpy ride what with Rishab Pant going from strength to strength in the Test side.

If that is not enough, Saha has other problems too at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore where he is going through a rehab process. Mirror learns that the services of a wicketkeeping coach were sought for his training but the BCCI management is understood to have rejected the request.

According to reliable sources in Bangalore and Mumbai, a requisition was made before the BCCI management and its Committee of Administrators (CoA) that Saha be allowed to train under Vijay Yadav, a former India wicketkeeper from Haryana. This request was in view of Abhay Sharma, the regular wicket-keeping coach at the NCA, being busy with the India A side.

But the proposal was rejected by the BCCI authorities saying that Saha can train under Kiran More, another former India keeper who periodically visits the NCA to train the youngsters.

Kiran More clueless

When asked More expressed ignorance over any such development and the BCCI officials could not be reached for a comment but what can be said with certainty is that NCA head Toofan Ghosh mooted the proposal and forwarded it to Rahul Johri, the BCCI CEO.

Saha’s injury was the headline news mid-last year with many questions raised over his status of fitness and management of his injury. After questions were raised over the injury-management and lack of transparency, the BCCI came out with a detailed timeline but it raised even more questions than answers.

Saha’s last international game was the Cape Town Test in last January and he sporadically played in the IPL for the Sunrisers before being laid by shoulder injury. In his absence, Dinesh Karthik and Pant kept wicket for India with the latter grabbing the opportunity to effectively seal his place in the Test side.
