Maruti Suzuki clocks 20 million production milestone

India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) on Monday announced that it has crossed production of 20 million (2 crore) vehicles in India from its Gurugram and Manesar facilities.

NEW DELHI: India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) on Monday announced that it has crossed production of 20 million (2 crore) vehicles in India from its Gurugram and Manesar facilities.
MSIL is the first to achieve this milestone in India.
It took the carmaker 34 years and 6 months to clock this number as the brand has been manufacturing cars in India since December 1983.

At present, Maruti Suzuki makes 16 models for the domestic market.
The one million units production milestone was achieved by Maruti Suzuki in March 1994, the 5 million mark was hit in April 2005 while the carmaker’s 10 millionth unit rolled out in March 2011. In May 2015, Maruti Suzuki had sold 15 million cars in India.
“We would like to thank all our valued customers, business partners, Government, investors and all stakeholders. The 20 million production milestone is a testimony of trust in brand Maruti Suzuki", said Kenichi Ayukawa, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India.
Of the 20 million units, 14.37 million vehicles were manufactured in Gurugram, while 5.62 million vehicles were from the carmaker's Manesar facility.
