Mumbai:
Tata Power has identified Afghanistan for growth
opportunities and future returns even as it faces multiple challenges in its home country. The outfit, a part of the $103-billion
Tata Group, has signed an agreement with the Afghanistan government-owned electricity distribution company
DABS for generation, transmission and distribution of power in the war-ravaged region. In Afghanistan, only 35% of its population have access to electricity.
Tata Power MD & CEO Praveer Sinha said, “Afghanistan has huge natural resources, including rivers and sun power, that can help sustain the country in the years to come besides becoming power surplus and exporting it to other South Asian countries.”
