HYDERABAD: Tech giant Apple, which opened its development centre in Hyderabad two years ago, is set to hit the 5,000-employee mark soon, a Telangana government official said here on Wednesday.
Telangana IT and industries principal secretary Jayesh Ranjan, at the launch of a Chinese MNC’s development centre here, said, “One of the reasons Apple chose to come to Hyderabad was because of the opportunity to work with the government, and to train freshers and make them a part of their workforce.
They have set up GIS Labs (geographic information systems labs) in many colleges, where students are trained in maps and are then recruited by Apple. In no time, they have reached around 3,500 people and are expected to take this number to 5,000.”
Ranjan was stressing on the point about the state government assisting companies in training and hiring freshers through its Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK). In the case of Apple, too, TASK assisted in zeroing in on institutes where the tech company could build iOS skills among students.
In May 2016, Apple CEO Tim Cook had inaugurated the new office at the Waverock campus in Hyderabad, focused on development of maps for Apple products.
