AGRA: Agitated students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) have demanded a "public apology" from the vice chancellor of the University for inviting BJP leaders and minister in the campus on Sir Syed bicentenary function last week on October 17.
The protesting students said that they had been kept in dark about the invitation given to the BJP leaders.
Talking to media, former vice president, Nadeem Ansari said, Sandeep Singh is the grandson of Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh, who played a major role in Babri Mazid demolition.
He said, we will not tolerate such "kattar" (hardliners) inside the campus. "We are against anyone who indulges in communal politics", he said.
Another student Mohd Imran said that Rhett will run a campaign against vice chancellor of he fails to apologize within 24 hours.
Clarifying its stand on the issue, a senior official of AMU administration said that a minister was nominated by the state government to be 'Minister in waiting' for the visiting former President of India as part of protocol. This standard protocol was followed at the SS Day function on October 17. The university was intimated by the district administration regarding the same.
