Bitcoin extortion case: Ex BJP MLA arrested in Maharashtra

AHMEDABAD: Ex BJP MLA and one of the main accused in the multi-crore bitcoin case, Nalin Kotadiya was arrested by Ahmedabad Crime Branch from Dhuliya in Maharashtra on Sunday noon. Crime branch sources said Kotadiya was being brought to Ahmedabad.
It is to be noted that Kotadiya was named n accused in kidnapping of Surat based businessman Shailesh Bhatt for extortion of Bitcoins worth Rs 12 crore.

"Kotadiya is named as accused with the then Amreli SP Jagdish Patel and Amreli LCB PJ Anant Patel. The duo along with nine other accused have been arrested by Gujarat CID, while Kotadiya was declared an absconder in the case," said a senior official.
CID crime officials said Bhatt had invested crores of rupees in a virtual currency investment company during demonetisation. "However, as the company downed its shutters, Bhatt had allegedly got its administers kidnapped and extorted Bitcoins and kitecoins from them," added a CID crime official.
