JEE Advanced: Five from state in top 100 AIR

AHMEDABAD: With more students from the state aspiring for IITs, IISc and IIST, the year 2018 had seen nearly 10,000 students appearing for JEE (main) examination from Gujarat. The JEE (advanced) results announced on Sunday showed five students from the state in top 100 All India Rank (AIR).
Saumya Goyal, a student of DPS Gandhinagar topped in Gujarat with AIR 13 and came third in Bombay region (the area administered by IIT-Bombay for the examination).
He scored 309 out of 360 marks. Shreyansh Nagori from DPS Bopal is also in top 100 with AIR 93. Meghana Missula, a girl from Vadodara, has got AIR 80 whereas Param Khakkhar from Rajkot has got AIR 83. A student from Surat, with AIR 72, completes the top five from Gujarat.
According to the official release by the JEE (advanced) organizing chairman, a total of 11,279 seats are being offered in IITs, and a total of 800 supernumerary seats have been created specifically for girl candidates in order to improve gender balance in IITs. Out of 1.55 lakh students who appeared in JEE (advanced) examination, 18,138 candidates have qualified the examination, scoring above the cut-off required. Out of the total, 2,076 are girls. The top ranker - Pranav Goyal - has scored 337 marks out of 360.
Rakesh Bothra of Bothra Classes, said that compared to previous years, more students from Gujarat had appeared in the examination and thus the overall result has also improved. Computer science has remained the top choice of the toppers from Gujarat.
