BATHINDA: Punjab Congress general secretary Manjit Singh Jhalbuti has sought the party ticket for the Lok Sabha elections for any family member of the two Sikh protesters who were killed in police firing at Behbal Kalan village in October 2015.
In a letter to All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh and Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar, Jhalbuti said the party should field any member of the two families from Bathinda parliamentary constituency.
Jhalbuti, who belongs to Mansa district, said the Congress should field a family member of the victims against Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal. By doing so, he said, Congress can corner Akali Dal, saying the rival party had failed to solve cases of sacrilege. He said the final decision rested with the party high command.
Sarbat Khalsa-appointed jathedar Dhian Singh Mand has made SAD (Amritsar) and United Akali Dal field candiates from five constituencies, including Bathinda, under the banner of Bargari Morcha. tnn
