BATHINDA: Union food-processing industry minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal has described the arrest of Punjab Police IG Paramraj Singh Umranangal as “politically motivated”, saying that the state government was promoting the cause of hardliners by acting against him and this could demoralise the police force.
She went on to accuse Punjab local government minister Navjot Singh Sidhu of having “some deal with Pakistan”.

In Mansa on Tuesday, Harsimrat said the IG had been arersted to “please hardliners”. She added that the arrest would not benefit the state. “Na Punjab da bhala hai, na kise hor da. Balke, desh di suraksha nu kamzor karan vaste eh ek vadda zogdan ho sakda eh (with it, neither Punjab is going to get anything nor anyone else. However, this step could contribute to weakening the internal security of the country),” she said.
Harsimrat also took pot shots at Sidhu, saying it seemed he had a deal with Pakistan as he had not retracted from his statement made after the terror strike in Pulwama. “He has shown himself as a traitor. Now, even his own party men are against him. Congress chief Rahul Gandhi should sack him,” she said.
