AMRITSAR: Pakistani woman intruder, Gulshan, succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in Guru Nanak Dev Hospital on Friday.
Medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Surinder Pal, told TOI that Gulshan had bullet injuries in her stomach and her intestines were ruptured. She was operated on and was shifted to ICU where she died.
Gulshan had attempted to enter India near border security force (BSF) Basantar border outpost in Gurdaspur Sector on Wednesday at around 4.40am.
She was spotted by BSF’s patrolling party who warned her against entering Indian territory. But Gulshan continued to approach the fence, forcing BSF troops to open fire. BSF recovered a 3.5 meter rope, a pair of camouflage pants, a broken mobile phone without SIM card from her possession.
Sources said that during questioning, she claimed that she fought with her husband, who left her near the border in anger, from where she entered Indian soil without realising. According to Dr Pal she often made statements, but changed her mind immediately.
BSF deputy inspector general R S Kataria said BSF had held a flag meeting with Pakistani rangers and informed them about the death of Gulshan and asked them to accept the body. “But we are still waiting for some response,” he said.
Intelligence sources said that they are investigating why she was carrying rope and camouflage pants. They are also looking into why she tried to enter India at such an early hour. “We are sure that her husband did not leave her at the border. Had that been the case, the Pak Rangers would have held her. She was most likely ‘sent’ to India,” said sources.
