21 UPSRTC bus terminals set to become hi-tech
BAREILLY: The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will soon be developing 21 roadways bus terminals across state hi-tech on the lines of Alambagh bus-terminal in Lucknow.
Inaugurating Alambagh terminal on June 12, chief minister Yogi Adityanath had announced his government’s plan to upgrade 21 bus terminals — Kaushambi (Ghaziabad), Bareilly (Satellite) Kanpur central, Varanasi Cantonment, Civil Lines (Allahabad), Sohrab Gate (Meerut), Char Bagh bus station, Raebareli, Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Garhmukteshwar, Eidgah Agra, Vibhuti Khand Gomti Nagar, Transport Nagar Agra, Agra fort, Aligarh Rasulabad, Bhainsali Meerut, Zero road depot, Mathura, Bulandshahr and Ghaziabad.

The Alambagh bus terminal is spread over 2,50,000 sq ft and has been equipped with multiplex, mall, food court, air-conditioned waiting lounge. The terminal has been developed at a cost of around Rs 232 crore, and also has a metro rail station.
UPSRTC officials said the project would be completed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Officials said besides 21 terminals, 23 roadways bus stands would be renovated with an objective to provide best transport services to UPSRTC passengers. The 23 bus stands include Jalaun bus station in (Orai), Kushinagar bus station (Kasya), Kasganj, Masoodabad bus station (Aligarh), Dibai bus station. (Bulandshahr), Bisalpur bus station (Pilibhit), Hamirpur, Ambedkarnagar, etc.
UPSRTC chief general manager HS Gaba told TOI, “As many as 21 bus terminals will soon be developed hi-tech on the lines of Alambagh bus terminal with an aim to provide better transport services to the passengers. Moreover, facilities such as restaurants, air-conditioned waiting lounge, WiFi, underground parking, etc will also be made available to the commuters at roadways bus terminals.”

According to UPSRTC sources, the 21 bus terminals will be equipped with hi-tech facilities such as multiplexes, cafeteria, basement parking, WiFi, air-conditioned waiting halls, ramps for physically disabled passengers, modern information and announcement system, elevators for easy access to various locations and modern toilets.
“The estimated cost of the overhauling of the 21 terminals has been pegged at Rs 1,100 crore. Both projects are likely to be completed by 2020,” said officials.
