Computer science engineering remains popular choice in PU

CHANDIGARH: The craze to pursue computer science engineering (CSE) is far from fading away as even after the second round of counselling of colleges under Joint Admission Committee (JAC), CSE remains the top choice of students. After the second round of seat allotment on Friday evening, a total of 1,220 seats were filled.
“The students want to go for CSE irrespective of the college they get.Their priority is the stream and not the college and it seems that this trend would continue for long. Even when it comes to IITs, the students are opting for the CSE stream, which may not be the best course being offered in that particular IIT,” said J K Goswami, coordinator of JAC admissions at UIET.
However, the seats in categories including cancer patients and persons with physical disability (PWD) saw only one applicant each applying for the engineering courses. Goswami said that students who have partcipated in JoSAA, the central counselling platform for admissions to IITs and NITs, have also applied in colleges under JAC. “Once they get seats there, they would leave the seats here,” added Goswami.
After the second round of seat allotment for the engineering colleges, the cut-off in the all-India (AI) pool is higher than the home state (HS) pool. While the closing rank of the BE in computer science engineering (CSE) in the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) in AI quota is 31,323, the closing rank for CSE in Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET) in the HS pool is 64,996.
The closing rank of CSE in University Institute of Engineering and Technology, PUSSG Regional Centre, Hoshiarpur, after the second round of seat allotment, is 77,445 in the AI pool.
Moreover, following the pattern of the first cut-off list, BE in information technology at UIET, Chandigarh, also recorded high cut-off at the closing rank of 45,481. The closing rank of BE in electronics & communication engineering at UIET, Chandigarh, is 51,589 in the AI pool and at CCET it is 56,673 in the same pool.
