Punjab wants Facebook, Google to help fight drugs

CHANDIGARH: Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh has written to Google and Facebook to help the state government with technological support in fighting drug menace in the state.
He has written two separate letters to Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook. In his letter to Zuckerberg, he has said, “Internet is ripe with a lot of content about finding newer ways of addiction to substances and enables addicts to find a ready and steady supply of material… We realise that technology now forms a large part of youth’s lives and they are deeply influenced by what they see, hear and consume.”
He added, “I write to you at a very critical juncture in my state’s journey… youth in the state remain gripped under a severe drug crisis.
Over the next few days, we will be announcing newer measures to tackle this challenge.”
Later, Amarinder tweeted, “I will knock on every door and leave no stone unturned to ensure we eliminate drugs from Punjab. We look forward to their help.”
Meanwhile, on Independence Day, prominent personalities like former Army chief VP Malik and Olympian Abhinav Bindra posted videos on twitter for the hashtag #NasheToAzaadi.
