CHANDIGARH: A criminal complaint has been filed against two Chandigarh police constables claiming that they "murdered" a 27-year-old resident of Jammu on Diwali last year. The uncle of the deceased moved Chandigarh district court. The matter would now come up for hearing on February 16.
The complaint has been filed by Sikander Kumar, uncle of Rohit, the deceased, for summoning Manjeet, posted as constable at Sector 31 police station and Ajay, another constable, and the then station house officer (SHO) Gurjeet Kaur.

According to the complaint, on November 6, 2018 Rohit had come to Chandigarh from Jammu to the complainant's house in Hallo Majra to celebrate Diwali.
On November 7, Rohit and the relatives had gathered at the terrace of house no. 256 to play cards. At around 2pm, Manjeet and Ajay came to the terrace and accused the gathering of gambling. It is alleged that they refused to listen to any reasoning and caught hold of Rohit by the scruff of his neck and started to forcefully snatch money from the pockets of his pants. It is alleged that the police, incensed by the resistance, had shoved Rohit hard, who hit the broken wall of the terrace and fell on to the first floor, sustaining serious injuries. On seeing an unconscious Rohit, the complaint alleges that the police fled the scene.
Rohit was taken to GMCH in Sector 32, Chandigarh, where he was declared dead.
An Fir was registered on the same day by relatives at the Sector 31 police station, but nothing came of it. It has also been claimed that the relatives weren't provided Rohit's post mortem report and that the then SHO Kaur had tried to protect her cops, and, therefore, is equally responsible for the suffering of deceased's relatives.
