CHENNAI: Aadhaar details obtained from people visiting sub- registrar offices for property registrations in Tamil Nadu would be authenticated with the central servers maintained by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) soon as the Tamil Nadu government has allowed using it for the purpose.
However, the 12-digit unique identification number could be used only after the consent of those executing the registrations.

The government has notified rules named Tamil Nadu Registration (Identity Verification for the Registration of Documents) Rules, 2018 of the Registration Act, 1908 for the purpose.
"The registering officer, in order to satisfy himself about the identity of party, may examine persons whose identity has been verified through a consent-based Aadhaar authentication service and verify the same from the system of UIDAI," said the rules released on Wednesday.
Hitherto, Aadhaar details like the 12-digit unique identification number and thumb impression are obtained from those preferring to provide them during land registrations. But it is not linked to the servers of UIDAI for authentication.
Further, an amendment has brought about for getting Iris scanning, where left thumb impression or impression of any other finger could not be obtained for endorsing documents.
