Velumani refutes charges of corruption
Coimbatore: State local administration minister S P Velumani reiterated that he would quit politics if corruption charges against him were proved.
“If allegations of corruption in the local administration ministry was proved, I would not only quit my minister’s post and party post, but leave politics altogether,’’ he said talking to reporters in the city on Wednesday.
“At the same time, will DMK president M K Stalin fails to prove the allegations against me, is he prepared to quit from the post of opposition leader and party president and give those to Duraimurugan and Alagiri?’’ he asked.
When asked about DMK organizing secretary R S Bharathi’s challenge for a debate on scams in local administration department, Velumani said he was not ready to reply to the statements of Bharathi. “Bharathi is acting on the directions of Stalin. I don’t want to answer him,’’ he said.
On AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran’s charges of widespread power cuts in the state, Velumani said there were few cases of power suspension which was set right immediately. “It was during DMK regime that the state witnessed 18 hours of power cuts,’’ he said.
