GHAZIABAD: A gang of five vehicle-snatchers was arrested on Monday night from whom 19 two-wheelers have been recovered. The gang is said to be involved in several cases of vehicle snatching in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and other districts of western UP. The mastermind, Ravi Kumar, has at least 24 cases of loot, robbery and attempt to murder against him including ones registered under the Gangsters Act.
He is credited to have stolen around 150 vehicles in his career.
“The main accused has stolen at least 150 vehicles in his criminal career. The gang used to operate using code names for each other, like Mowgli or Moga, in order to hoodwink the police. They changed their codenames at frequent intervals. They also used to paste police stickers on their vehicles in order to evade arrest,” said Ghaziabad SSP Vaibhav Krishna.
The recovered two-wheelers include 14 motorbikes and five scooters. One of the accused gang members, Pratap (40), is on the run. The remaining have been identified as Vicky (21), Brahm Singh (20), Raudas (27) and Kuldeep (31). Police said the gang used a standard modus operandi by which they would take stolen vehicles to Meerut and Hapur where they would sell them at cheap rates.
