GHAZIABAD: When two groups of students of a prominent school in Modinagar had an altercation on its premises on Teachers’ Day on September 5, many passed it off as a normal fight. But, within a few hours, one group returned with country-made pistols and started firing in air outside the school, leading to panic in the area.
The police were alerted and a few of them were arrested after a hot chase.
The arrested were all minors and students of Class XI. When they were taken to the police station, the cops were assuming that their parents would turn up for their wards and would be ashamed of their wards’ behaviour. However, soon ‘guardians’ of three accused students arrived at the police station in swanky SUVs and starting pressuring police to release the accused students. The police then searched the SUVs and it was found that they were also carrying guns and cartridges. The police then arrested them as well.
The accused were identified as Amit Tyagi and Jeetender Tyagi, who were relatives of one of the kids. “We led a further check on arms in their houses and a cache of arms were seized including three high-end foreign-made and six country-made pistols and over 100 cartridges including that of SLR,” said Krishna.
The SSP later said that Amit Tyagi, the prime accused, is also a criminal. “He has at least nine cases including that of murder lodged against him. Out of 10 guns we seized, only one had license while rest were illegal,” said Krishna.
