Govt corp to invite bidders for work on convention centre
Panaji: The Economic Development Corporation (EDC) will float a request for proposal (RFP) next month to invite bidders for construction of a convention centre at Dona Paula. The project, which is conceptualised on a public-private-partnership (PPP) model, will cost around Rs 1,400 crore.
As many as 25 business houses have shown interest in constructing the convention centre on a 52-acre plot.

Recently, the EDC had held a consultative meeting with in this regard, an event that was attended by major local, national and international organizations. The gathering brought in transparency as well as boosted investor confidence in the EDC team handling the project. Bidders have suggested that the government increase the height of the project from 25m as per the outline development plan, to 75m.
Along with the convention centre, an exhibition centre, indoor film shooting shed, ESG and Iffi office, Smart City centre of excellence and commercial enterprises like hotels, apartments, malls and a multiplex will come up at the complex.
The rest of the area will be used for utilities, parking, electricity generation and solid waste management.
A steering committee had been constituted and weekly meetings are being held to ensure that the convention centre and ESG complex are ready ahead of the 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India (Iffi), as was recently announced by chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
The government is also working to ensure that the entire project is a revenue-generating model the state making maximum gains from it.
