No beef shortage reported to GMCL: Animal husbandry minister
PANAJI: There was no shortage of beef reported to Goa Meat Complex Ltd (GMCL) told Mauvin Godinho, minister for animal husbandry and veterinary services to Goa legislative assembly on Wednesday that while replying to question tabled by St Cruz MLA, Antonia Fernandes.
Godinho also informed the House that the production capacity of GMCL is 150 animals a shift (300 animals day). On an average 21 animals were slaughtered at GMCL.
The estimated sale of beef based on the meat inspection charges paid beef dealers is approximately 2300 to 2400 kgs per day.
The GMCL's operations came to a standstill in November 2017 after meat traders faced problems in getting animals from across the border with some voluntary organisations raising objections.
Godinho assured the House that they will start operations at GMCL at the earliest and they are in the process of getting various statutory permissions.
