Youths want to guide others toward a drug-free life
AMBALA: With the intent to make Ambala a drug free place, 15 youths of Shahpur village in Ambala district on Monday initiated a campaign ‘Udta Ambala Ujadta Ambala, Maine Chhorha Tum Bhi Chhorho’ (Inspiring Ambala, Destroying Ambala, I have left You also leave) to motivate those who are willing to get away from the drug abuse.
Adressing media persons at public welfare department rest house in Ambala Cantonment one of the youths, Gursewak Singh, 26, claimed that he started consuming heroin in 2018, but in last near four months he has completely been off drugs.

Gursewak claimed, “There is no stringent check on heroin smuggling in Ambala Cantonment area and heroin (chitta) is being sold at the price of Rs 2000-2500 per gram in Ambala. The government must keep a check on this menace and on the lines of Punjab government providing free medicines to the drug-addicts at de-addiction centers, similar initiatives are required in Haryana as well.”
Sharing his experience, Gursewak said, “During second year of my graduation at GMN College, Ambala Cantonment I left studies due to the drug abuse with anti-social elements. But with my will power I have overcome this mental decease. Drug addiction is 85 per cent mental decease while 15 per cent is physical requirement. The society also needs to accept the drug addicts instead of isolating them and with love and care every addict’s life can be changed very quickly. The drugs not only destroy one’s physical strength but it forces to indulge in criminal activities. I am ready to help the police in nabbing the drug smugglers.”
The youths were supported by the Indian National Lok Dal local leader Onkar Singh who said, “These youths are special that they have spoken out about their struggle of drug abuse. Most of the drug abusers do not come forward in society and with time they become criminals. We will support there initiative and work to bring forward more youths from other villages of Ambala district to fight with the drug menace.”
When questioned about claims by youths, Ambala Cantonment d said that they will seek police help fir furthering the cause.
