ROHTAK: The strike by resident doctors of PGIMS here over the suicide by an MD student ended on its fourth day on Monday. Dr Omkar of MD final year had committed suicide on Thursday, after which his colleagues had registered an FIR against their head of department Dr Geeta Gathwala, alleging that she had mentally tortured the deceased.
Chief adviser of Resident Doctors’ Association, Rohtak, Dr Satbir Singh said that they had a long meeting with PGIMS vice-chancellor Dr O P Kalra and decided to end the strike in the larger interest of patients.

“We were assured that maximum compensation would be given to the deceased’s family, the matter would be taken to the chief minister’s office and the police would make no delay in the arrest of accused Dr Geeta Gathwala after proper investigations,” he added.
The PGIMS authorities had been trying to persuade the striking doctors, who were so far unwilling to give up their core demands of arrest of Dr Gathwala and Rs 1-crore compensation to the bereaved family. However, the situation changed with new details emerging in the incident and a cross-case being filed against some junior doctors for vandalizing Dr Gathwala’s house.
