ROHTAK: Police here on Sunday formed a DSP-headed special investigation team (SIT) to probe into what led to PGIMS junior resident Dr Onkar committing suicide on Thursday night.
However, even as the police showed intent in solving the case, resident doctors of Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) did not end their strike, which entered the third day, and demanded the arrest of the only accused, Dr Geeta Gathwala.

Dr Gathwala is the head of paediatrics department of PGIMS, and Dr Onkar worked under her. She is accused of harassing Dr Omkar to such an extent that he committed suicide. In a counter complaint filed by her, police had on Saturday booked 20 junior doctors who had invaded and vandalized her home after the suicide.
A district administration team, headed by deputy superintendent of police Narayan Chand and sub-divisional magistrate Rakesh Kumar, met the protesters for about half an hour to convince them to end the strike, but they remained adamant on their demand for Dr Gathwala’s arrest.
PGIMS vice-chancellor Dr O P Kalra said even senior doctors of PGIMS had tried to convince the striking doctors to end the strike. Dr Kalra said all “justified demands” of the protesters had been accepted.
Meanwhile, a source in PGIMS said they were looking into the role of some doctors who might have “instigated” the junior doctors to not end the strike.
DSP Narayan Chand is heading the SIT.
