Magnitude-5.5 earthquake hits Assam, tremors felt in Bihar, West Bengal

The 5.5 magnitude occurred at 10.20am at 26.4 N latitude and 90.1 E longitude at a depth of 13 km in Kokrajar district of Assam. There were no immediate report of loss to life or property. Elsewhere in Kashmir, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake with epicenter in Ladakh struck around 5:30 am. Here too, no damage was reported.

NEW DELHI: A moderate intensity earthquake hit parts of Assam on Wednesday morning. The tremors were felt as far as Patna in Bihar and Siliguri in Bengal.
The magnitude of the quake was recorded at 5.5 on the Richter Scale, news agency PTI quoted Central Seismological Observatory in Shillong as saying. The quake lasted around 15 to 20 seconds.
The earthquake occurred at 10.20am at 26.4 N latitude and 90.1 E longitude at a depth of 13 km in Kokrajar district of Assam.

The tremor was felt in six northern districts of West Bengal as well as the metropolis and its surrounding districts, officials said.
There were no reports of loss to life or damage to property till the report was filed.
