DHARWAD: For this
farmer couple in
Haveri district, it was a dream come true on Monday as their son got two
gold medals in
UAS,
Dharwad. Basavaraj and Ratna discovered the brilliance of their son Siddu Chindi when he was a boy. In PU, he scored 100 marks in four subjects and had a chance to get a seat in top medical colleges.
Financial constraint in the family made Siddu to opt for BSc in agriculture and he had to take an educational loan to complete the course.
Basavaraj and Ratna are now proud that Siddu emerged as topper in the university. Chindi secured 9.17 CGPA. Currently, he studies post-graduation in genetics and plant breed sciences at GKVK in Bengaluru.
Siddu wants to take up advanced research in pest-resistance crop breed and become a scientist. He said the population is ever increasing and agriculture land is shrinking. “Under such a scenario there is a need to produce a high yield in shrinking land. Moreover, the fertility of soil is degrading due to the use of fertilisers. The need of the hour is to develop new breed of crops which have high pest-resistance and improve the fertility of soil. This will be my area of research,” he said.
