RTC eyes seamless link with Metro rail

HYDERABAD: Soon after chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao promised to roll out two more phases of Hyderabad Metro Rail within the next three months, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is firming up plans to provide better connectivity to passengers.
Roads and buildings principal secretary Sunil Sharma said RTC would soon be seamlessly integrated with Metro services to ensure a smooth commut, he said, at a meet with an expert committee held at Bus Bhavan here on Tuesday.
Transport minister P Mahender Reddy, who chaired the meet, promised more reforms in RTC, and said the expert committee would deliberate once in a week to study subsidies offered by RTC in other states and make suggestions for efficient utilisation of resources to improve efficiency. Following instructions from KCR, the high-level committee will carry out an indepth study of RTC, suggest measures for efficient functioning, and holistic transformation strategies, plans for improving internal efficiency with existing resources and reducing expenditure, using the latest technology, and carry out a comprehensive study for designing . The committee will submit a report to Sharma. A report on the expert committee meetings would be sent to the RTC joint action committee, said Reddy.
RTC chairman Somarapu Satyanarayana, Telangana Mazdoor Union general secretary E Ashwathama Reddy, TSRTC executive director Purushottam Naik were present.
