Physics professor appointed MU pro-VC

IMPHAL: Manipur University (MU) vice-chancellor Adya Prashad Pandey, who is currently facing a probe because of alleged financial and administrative irregularities, has appointed K Yugindro Singh, the seniormost professor of the physics department, as the pro-VC. Pandey issued an order on Monday, appointing Yugindro to the post.
"In anticipation of approval of the executive council and in exercise of the powers under section 13 (3) of the Manipur University Act, 2005, read with Statute 4 and the UGC Regulations 2018 as published in the Gazette of India dated July 17,2018, Yugindro has been appointed as the pro-VC of MU with immediate effect," the order read.
"His term of office will be co-terminus with the incumbent VC or will continue till the date of superannuation or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He will be paid salary and allowances as per UGC norms," it added.
A statement issued by MU registrar-in-charge M Shyamkesho Singh said Yugindro is an internationally known researcher and scientist and has been the chairman cum co-ordinator of Faculty Induction Development Cell of the varsity and the co-ordinator of the UGC Special Assistance Programme of the physics department. He has many publications in national and international journals and has been a senior associate of the UGC's Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune, the statement said, adding that Yugindro was also a visiting scientist of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai.
