INDORE: Of the 27 Tuberculosis (TB) patients adopted by seven units of National Service Scheme (NSS) of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) in the month of July, 25 have already been cured.
Following instructions of Governor Anandiben Patel, district TB hospital had apportioned 25-35 TB patients to universities for adoption.
“We were allotted 27 patients from the district hospital in July. We gave certain number of patients to seven units of NSS of the university teaching departments.
They ensured making monthly visits to the patients. The students will continue their visits,” said NSS in charge Prakash Garhwal.
Some of the faculty members of UTDs had been paying an amount of Rs 500 per child every month, he added.
While medicines were provided by the hospital, students used to take nutritious food a couple of times each month. The major reason for the visits was to give emotional support to the patients.
“It was an overwhelming experience to make visits at the TB patients’ houses. We had a life changing experience to witness progress in health of the patients that we were allotted,” said IET student Deepika Mukati.
