IMC starts Narmada control points
INDORE: The five new control points set up by Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) to ensure equal distribution of Narmada water in city have started functioning.
These control points have been set up at sump-wells and supply points at Scheme-54, BP Tank near Mhow, Bada Ganpati, Vijay Nagar and Radio Colony. Narmada project officials said that these new control points have been set up to monitor and ensure equal distribution of water in localities.

“We have divided the city in five divisions including east, west, north, south and central, and supply in localities falling in these divisions would be managed separately with these new control points,” said SK Junare, an assistant engineer with Narmada Project.
He said that they have formed teams which will be headed by a sub engineers. “Each control point has a team of five valve men (staff assigned to operate supply valves as per scheduled time during supply) and they will work under supervision of sub engineers,” he said, adding that this was not the case earlier and valve men used to work under supervision of Bijjalpur control room officials. This system has been implemented after residents complained of getting inadequate supply. Despite having ample supply, overhead tanks in various parts of the city could not be filled due to improper handling of supply valves.
The staff engaged in opening and closing of valves did not operate valves on time, which led to uneven distribution or wastage of water.
The civic body supplies 450MLD water to city and even after this, 66 overhead tanks could not be filled to their full capacity. Narmada project officials said that the teams in future will also be provided with vehicles for proper monitoring and supervision of valve operations. “With this new system, wastage of water especially during leakage would also be prevented,” they added.
