INDORE: Of the total 350 private schools in city, over 160 schools have refused to conduct measles and rubella vaccination camp.
The collector has directed district education officer to consult schools and ask them to start the vaccination camps on Thursday.
As per officials, in last two days, around 48,000 children have been vaccinated in 1860 schools including 1700 government schools in the district.
Campaign nodal officer Dr Tarun Gupta said, “We approached all 344 private schools in the city. However, when the campaign was started, schools did not allow our volunteers to set up the camp saying they were not ready to conduct the vaccination camp.”
“Despite conducting a special training and workshop for the schools, they are not ready till now. Due to this, we will not be able to achieve our target of vaccinating 10 lakh children of the city,” Dr Gupta added.
It was for the first time when education department was roped in for the campaign. But due to lack of co-operation from schools, health officials claimed that they will not be able to achieve the target within six weeks. CMHO Dr Pravin Jadia said, “We had a meeting with collector on the issue. Collector has directed DEO SC Sharma to conduct a meeting with all such schools and consult them to ensure that they start the camp in two days.”
The campaign by health department was started from January 15. The campaign is being organized for children between 9 months to 15 years of age.
