Rise in mercury continues in Rajasthan

JAIPUR: Mercury took an upward swing across the state on Sunday when most of the places witnessed rise in the day and night temperatures. A rise of almost 5 degrees Celsius on an average was reported across the state. Churu remained hottest in the state where a maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees Celsius was recorded, the Met reports said. However, Jaipur Met office said that in the coming week there is a possibility of revival of dust storm, hailstorm and rainfall at many places in the state.
The abrupt changes in the weather are likely to be witnessed throughout April at regular intervals.
Attributing the rise in the temperature to the active northerly winds the Jaipur Met office said that with the prevailing conditions of western disturbances, many places in the state are likely to witness dust storm, hailstorm and rainfall in the next 24 hours.
Jaipur saw a warm morning as a minimum temperature of 22.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in the city. In the afternoon the weather was sultry as a maximum temperature of 38.2 degrees, accompanied by humidity of almost 55% was witnessed. Though scattered clouds were witnessed in and around Jaipur, no rainfall was reported till Sunday evening. Last week on Monday and Tuesday heavy rainfall, dust storm and hailstorm claimed 25 lives across the state and damaged the harvested crops.
Met office further stated that last week of the April will bring dust storm, hailstorm and rainfall. It added that bad weather conditions are likely to revive Tuesday onwards in some parts of the state.
Barmer was followed by Jaisalmer where a maximum temperature of 41.8 degrees Celsius was recorded, Churu 41.5, Bikaner 40.8, Jodhpur 40.2, Ajmer 39, Kota and Sriganganagar 38.9 degrees Celsius each and in Udaipur a maximum temperature of 37.8 degrees Celsius was recorded.
In its forecast the Jaipur Met office said that mild showers and dust storm will occur at some places in the state in the next 24 hours.
