48-year-old held for assault on woman in Kochi

A 48-year-old man who groped and attacked a 23-year-old woman after she rejected his marriage proposal was arrested by North police on Monday.

KOCHI: A 48-year-old man who groped and attacked a 23-year-old woman after she rejected his marriage proposal was arrested by North police on Monday.
The arrested person has been identified as Chandran (48) hailing from Tripunithura. The man has been troubling the woman for over three years and committed the crime after the woman once again refused his advance on Friday night.

The accused who went absconding was tracked down and was arrested by North SI VB Anas on Monday.
“The accused person used to collect garbage from the women’s house. He told her that he was unmarried and wanted to marry her. The woman rejected his proposal then and also hired another person to collect waste. However, the accused continued to nurture his feelings towards the woman, said police.
On Friday night, knowing that the woman would be going home through that way, he waited for her under the Pachalam overbridge. When the woman reached the spot, the man again approached her and repeated his proposal. The woman once again rejected the same.
The man became furious and attacked the woman. Apart from physically assaulting her, he groped her as well.
The woman managed to escape from the spot and later filed a complaint with the Ernakulam Town North police station. The accused had gone absconding by then.
North police then launched a probe under circle inspector Siby Tom and SI Anas. The accused was presented before a magistrate and was remanded in judicial custody.
