KOCHI: A 40-year-old US national was arrested at the Cochin International Airport (Cial) by Nedumbassery police for carrying two live bullets in his check-in baggage on Monday.
The screening staff at Cial detected the bullets in the baggage of Casey Paul Parez at 6pm and they reported it to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The CISF men handed over the passenger to the local police as per procedure.
"If a passenger hasn't declared about the possession of the bullets or if he is not in possession of the supporting documents for carrying the ammunition, we will have to report it to the local police," said a source with the CISF.

Nedumbassery police registered an FIR against the US citizen under relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Sources said Parez had come to Kochi from Texas via Dubai and was scheduled to go to Delhi. He was presented before a magistrate late on Tuesday evening. Nedumbassery police inspector P M Baiju said the accused was the countrywide consultant of a reputed IT company, which has its branch in Infopark.
He reached Kochi on May 24 as part of work. "He was scheduled to return to the US via Delhi from Kochi airport on Tuesday. He said he uses a licenced gun in his hometown and the bullets would have accidently been misplaced in his luggage. The accused has been remanded to Kakkanad sub-jail. His bail application will be considered on Thursday," Baiju said.
