Doctor’s driver found dead on vacation

DIGHA: A doctor, his wife and his cousin were detained for questioning by Digha police on Friday after the body of their driver was found in a hotel room. Victim Abhijit Dutta’s body has been sent for post-mortem at Contai sub-divisional hospital.
Police said the doctor, a resident of Liluah, had checked into a hotel in New Digha late on Thursday along with his wife and cousin.They brought a vehicle with their driver Dutta, a resident of Howrah’s Chamrai area who started work a week back.
The doctor’s wife said Dutta had joined the trio for drinks on Thursday evening, after which he had allegedly tried to molest her. He fled to his room when she protested. On Friday, the trio went to the beach while Dutta slept in his room. On returning, they informed the hotel and the police that Dutta wasn’t responding to knocks and his door was locked from the inside. Cops broke into the room to find Dutta hanging from the ceiling.
Prima facie, police said it was a case of suicide.
