Supreme Court seeks report from Uttar Pradesh govt on Lakhimpur Kheri violence

Retired Allahabad high court judge Pradeep Kumar Srivastava has been named to enquire into the eruption of violence on Sunday on Tikonia-Banbirpur road in Lakhimpur Kheri district. Eight people were killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence on Sunday. Of the eight, four were farmers who were allegedly knocked down by vehicles driven by BJP workers. ADG Law and Order, Prashant Kumar said that Ashish Pandey and Luvkush were arrested on Thursday. Kumar said that the two were arrested on the basis of FIR registered by farmers and their names have surfaced during the investigation by the Lakhimpur Kheri police. Two spent bullets of 315 bore were also recovered from one of the SUVs during examination by forensic experts.

Senior RSS functionary Indresh Kumar on Thursday condemned the Lakhimpur Kheri violence but lashed out at the opposition parties, accusing them of creating an "atmosphere of hatred and violence" in the country.
