LUCKNOW: It seems King George’s Medical University staff are in no mood to pay any heed to state medical education minister Ashutosh Tandon’s advice to remain cordial with patients and their attendants. A day after allegedly thrashing a cancer patient’s attendant, KGMU employees once again misbehaved with a patient’s attendant on Friday.
The incident took place at the trauma centre, where the patient was admitted at the critical care unit (CCU).
The brawl between the staff and attendant comes a day after three contractual employees of the medical university allegedly thrashed a patient’s attendant in the new out patient department (OPD). Incidentally, the use of toilet, was the main reason behind the scuffle in both the cases.

Medical university authorities don’t need to be told about how unclean toilets can cause infection. In fact, they should be educating people on precautions. Ironically, not only there is an acute shortage of public toilets in the university where thousands come for treatment daily, unhygienic conditions in the existing ones are a threat to patients and their attendants. Officials should take up the matter on priority basis. People should also follow sanitation rules while using toilets.

Filing an official complaint with the chief medical superintendent (CMS) of KGMU, the complainant, said that she was “hounded” and “publicly harassed” for using a toilet on the first floor of the trauma centre by an unidentified doctor and his colleagues.
“A few days back, my friend had unknowingly used the staff toilet and we had apologised to the doctor on being checked. On Friday, when I came out of the public toilet on first floor, the same doctor along with his colleagues cornered me on finding me alone. They started shouting at me publicly for using the toilet,” said the complainant.
“He used derogatory language and asked for guards to throw me out. My mother is admitted on the fifth floor, but I used the first floor toilet. That was the only toilet that was in a better state and had no entry restrictions enlisted on it,” she added. University spokesperson Dr Sudhir Singh, said, “As per prima facie inquiry, it has been found that the attendant was stopped as she entered the post operative neurosurgery ward, where patients with higher risk of catching an infection are admitted. The entire incident will be probed further to ascertain the exact cause of the scuffle.”
