LUCKNOW: A 24-year old youth, who was critically injured after falling into an under construction lift duct at an apartment, succumbed to injuries at KGMU trauma centre on Friday. On the complaint of the family members, the owner of the building has been booked by the police.
On February 16, Sumit Singh had fallen into the duct from the fourth floor of the four-storey apartment in Aliganj as his eyes were fixed on his smartphone.
A resident of Aliganj, Singh had gone to meet his friends at the apartment. Enraged family members urged SSP Lucknow Kalanidhi Naithani for stern action against the building owner, who turned a blind eye to the requests of residents to close the duct.
Singh’s friend Shamsher told TOI that he along with others had asked the owner to put a warning board on the staircase leading to the fourth floor where the duct was situated.
“We had also asked him to complete the construction work at the earliest, but all went in vain,” he added.
SHO Aliganj Farid Ahmed said that a case has been registered against the owner and his accomplice. “The builder will be nabbed very soon,” he added.
