BIJNOR: For nearly 24 hours, Bijnor has been reeling under power cut as heavy rainfall and strong winds continue to disrupt normal life here.
The rains, which have been occurring since Tuesday night, uprooted several trees, thereby disrupting power supply in the district.
There are around 75 sub power houses in the district. Out of these, 20 power houses have been affected by storm.
Villager Sanjeev Rana said, “Around 25 villages, including my village—Mandawali, are connected with Umarpur Meera power house.
For the last 24 hours, we are living without electricity. We have contacted PVNL’s officers, but they have not responded to us.”
When contacted superintendent engineer CP Singh, she said, “There was heavy rains on Tuesday night which derailed power supply here especially in rural areas. We are finding out the fault caused by storm and repairing the power lines. I hope we will be able to restore the power in next few hours.”
On the other hand, heavy rains have caused great damage to sugarcane crop.
“Around 10 of the crop has been badly damaged. Now, rats and other wild animals will destroy and eat the crop.”
