Meerut-school kids shiver as only 30% of them get sweaters

Meerut-school kids shiver as only 30% of them get sweaters
There are a total of 1.16 lakh students here
Meerut: Though winter season has started, students of Uttar Pradesh government school students continue to shiver in Meerut. Out of the total 1.16 lakh students here, only 30% have got sweaters so far. This comes even after the state government had fixed October 31 as the deadline for the distribution of the sweaters. It should be noted that the sweater distribution had started only in January in the last winter season, and was completed by February end.
Charan Singh, block education officer, Meerut district, said, “Out of the total number of students, sweaters have been distributed among 30% of them.
The process is being expedited. While the instructions to distribute sweaters came in September, the budget was released later.”
While the state wide data still has to be compiled, the distribution of sweaters even after the October 31 deadline continues to be very low. The state government had issued an order in mid-September this year to distribute sweaters among the students of UP government schools by October 31. Instructions were also given to provide the details of sweater distribution to the state authorities on a daily basis. However, the last state-wide report compiled in the matter was called “highly unsatisfactory” by the state authorities since the number of sweaters distributed until then were very low in number.
“The school management committees are responsible for the distribution of the sweaters and procurements orders have been placed by them. In all probability, the distribution will be completed by this month end,” added Singh.
