BIJNOR: Days after a 40-year-old woman was reported missing from her house at Rahrai village in Amroha district, police on Sunday said she was killed by her son, two brothers-in-law and another accomplice, after they found out that she was in an illicit relationship with the village’s former pradhan.
The victim, Sarita Devi, was reported missing from her house on July 26 by her brother Jitendra Kumar.
He had accused her son Gurmeet Singh, brothers-in-law Vikarm and Prathi, and their friend Chandrapal Singh of abducting her. A case was subsequently registered against the accused under section 364 (kidnapping) of IPC on July 31 at the Adampur police station in Amroha.
Superintendent of police (SP), Amroha, SK Singh, had formed a team to crack the case. “During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and said they had strangulated Sarita on the evening of July 26. The body was later put in a sack and thrown into the Ganga river near Bhagwanpur village,” said the SP.
Police have recovered a scarf, sandals and the car which was used to ferry the body.
“The accused had hired the vehicle for Rs 10,000 to take the body to Bhagwanpur bridge. The woman was allegedly in a relationship with the former head of Rahrai village, Sureesh Kumar. She was also involved in the murder of Suresh’s earlier lover and sent to jail about six years ago,” added SP Singh.
