By-election for one MLC seat on October 3

By-election for one MLC seat on October 3
Nagpur: The Election Commission of India on Wednesday announced schedule for by-election of one MLC seat from Maharashtra. The seat fell vacant with the demise of state agriculture minister and senior BJP leader Pandurang Fundkar who passed away on May 31.
In this election, 288 members of the state legislative assembly (MLAs) will cast their votes on October 3 between 9am and 4pm.
Counting will be done from 5pm the same day.
With the BJP-Sena together having majority in the state assembly, presumably a BJP candidate will have an easy win. However, looking to the fact that the term lasts on April 24, 2020, there may not be many in race for the post.
With two MLCs already from Nagpur from BJP quota, this time the candidate could be from other regions and the BJP may also select someone from social engineering angle in view of the coming Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections next year, sources in BJP indicated.
Along with one seat in state, by-election for three MLC seats in Karnataka will have same schedule with Sept 22 as last date for filing nominations, Sept 24 scrutiny, 26th for withdrawal.
