Now, govt schools to have teaching kits for students
Nashik: Government-run primary schools will soon have study material like moving blocks, charts, talking books, audio-visual study material and self-study cards on the lines of private schools.
The education department has declared that all primary schools run by local governing bodies in the state will get new sets of Teaching Learning Material (TLM) from the current academic session.

These sets have been specially designed on the principles of ‘Dnyan Rachanavad’, a teaching methodology developed by teachers from across Maharashtra.
Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (Vidya Pradhikaran) had designed the kit while Vidya Pradhikaran had recommended to the state government to make it available for primary students.
“Students can learn better when they are motivated through different teaching aids. During primary classes, teaching aids develop proper image when the students see, hear, taste and smell properly. They help in conceptual thinking. Hence, the government decided to allot the aids to all schools,” says a GR.
Initially, administrative approval was given to procure the kits for maths and English subjects while an e-tender is expected to be issued soon. Government has also allotted Rs 10 crore for the first year of implementation.

The teachers in Nashik district who have been closely associated with the development of Dnyan Rachanawad concept have welcomed the government’s move.
“Today’s age is of science and technology and the teaching and learning programmes have changed. The process of teaching-learning depends upon different types of equipment available in the classroom. Teaching aids provide direct experience to the students,” said Datta Chaugule, a teacher from a local government school.
He said that many schools have started using actual models, pictures, charts, maps, flash cards, flannel board, bulletin board, chalkboard, overhead projector and slides on their personal levels. The initiative of the government to provide the tool kit on a mandatory basis to every school will benefit all students.
Teacher Surabhi Gaikwad said teachers can clarify the subject matter more easily with the help of these tools. “Teaching aids motivate the students so that they can learn better. They make the classroom lively and active. The kits developed by the Vidya Pradhikaran are innovative and student-friendly,” she added.
