GREATER NOIDA: The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) carried out a large scale anti-encroachment drive on Tuesday and cleared 15 mobile carts and few kiosks, roadside eateries and scrap dealers, etc.
The drive started from Knowledge Park III near Sharda Hospital went on to GL Bajaj Institute of Technology and Management, IIMT College of Management to Tugalpur market near Pari Chowk and concluded at Ansal Plaza.
The offenders were fined with Rs 1,100 and their belongings confiscated.
The drive began early Tuesday morning. The GNIDA officials deployed a JCB machine along with a small truck to lift mobile carts such as ice-cream and roadside eatery carts and dunk them in the truck. “We have collected 15 such mobile carts, some kiosks and roadside eatery structures from Knowledge Park II and III, near Sharda Hospital and most management and technology colleges in the area. We also carried out the drive at Tugalpur market which is a major hub of encroachment as well as at Ansal Plaza,” said K D Mani, senior manager in-charge of urban services, GNIDA.
“Greater Noida was a planned city with large green spaces, but with increasing colleges and residential societies, the problem of encroachment has become rampant here. We have complained earlier to the GNIDA and also carried out awareness drives against encroachment in markets and residential sectors, but the situation did not improve,” said Alok Singh, founder of Active Citizens Group (ACG) from Greater Noida, a local social body.
Kamal Singh, a resident of Greater Noida added that similar action should also be taken at Jagat Farm, Alpha 2 and Yamuna market as these areas are also prone to rampant encroachment.
