Patna: Shri Krishna Puri park would be named after former Bihar chief minister Satyendra Narayan Sinha. The empowered standing committee (ESC) of the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) approved this proposal at its meeting here on Monday. Ward councillor Abha Lata said CM Nitish Kumar would inaugurate the park on July 12 after its facelift. ECS members also moved a proposal to divide PMC into six circles, instead of four — New Capital (NC), Bankipore, Kankarbagh and Patna City — by bifurcating the NC and Patna City circles.
This was the first formal meeting of new PMC commissioner Abhishek Singh with the ESC members. Singh gave the proposal to purchase 155 auto tippers, two fogging machines besides other equipment for cleanliness and desiltation. The ESC members and the commissioner also reviewed the cleanliness work done by the PMC so far.
Taking into consideration the huge garbage dump at the secondary garbage collection point, Patna mayor Afzal Imam gave 15 days ultimatum to all the executive officers to clear the dumping points, with special reference to the one at Gardanibagh. Imam said he would personally visit the spot after 15 days and would take action against the officers concerned if work was not done.
When asked about waterlogging in certain pockets of Patna just in a single day of rain, the mayor replied, “Waterlogging is natural in low-lying areas or those neighbourhood which have come up in unplanned way. But water is not stagnant for a very long time there.” He also said the clearing of drains before monsoon was worth appreciating.
Regarding waterlogging near Hotel Maurya, SP Verma Road and Patna Junction roundabout, Imam said he would place extra manpower to solve the problem. PMC commissioner also pointed that certain areas were below the level of the sump house and construction work was going on at a few places due to which the waterlogging problem could not be solved immediately.
Singh also instructed the agencies and PMC staff concerned to cover the manholes immediately after clearing them in order to avoid any untoward incident.
