2nd European Union film fest kicks off today

2nd European Union film fest kicks off today
PUDUCHERRY: The European Union to India, New Delhi and Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation in association with Alliance Francaise (AF), Puducherry and Navadarshan and Navayuga Consultancy Service will hold the European Union film festival for the second time in the Union territory of Puducherry from July 15 to August 1. The maiden edition of the fest was held last year.
The festival will be inaugurated at 4pm on Sunday in the presence of counsel general of France in Puducherry Catherine Suard, Greek film director Yannis Korres, AF director Gerard Greverand and president Lalit Verma.
Twenty-four latest and award-winning films from 23 European Union states will be screened during the festival.
The Storytellers’ Bar in Promenade Hotel will partner the festival this year by hosting six projections out of the 24 on every Monday and Thursday. The entry is free and people above 18 years will be allowed to watch the films.
The festival this year will have some unusual stories and curious themes. “The European Union film festival has become a part of the cultural calendar of many cities in India. It continues to win appreciation for bringing in the oeuvre of both established and new talents. This year the festival is all the more special and relevant as we celebrate European year of cultural heritage and cinema has a way to cut through boundaries and start an intercultural conversation,” said ambassador of European Union Tomasz Kozlowski.
