PUNE: Veteran educationist Chitra Naik and anti-dowry movement leader Mama Kulkarni have been selected for this year's Ba and Bapu awards.

PUNE: Veteran educationist Chitra Naik and anti-dowry movement leader Mama Kulkarni have been selected for this year’s Ba and Bapu awards. The awards will be presented at a function organised by the Ba-Bapu Jayanti Samiti, Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan and the Rajkot-based Young Men’s Gandhian Association at the S.M. Joshi hall at 5 pm on October 2.

Social workers Mukta Manohar and Fr. Francis D’Brito will be presented special awards on the occasion.
Adventure camps: Wild Country Learning, a city-based trekking organisation, has organised a Diwali adventure programme in October and November.

Nad Habba festival: The Kannada Sangha will celebrate the Nad Habba festival at the association’s office on Ketkar road in Erandwane from September 29 to October 4. A get-together will be also held from 5 pm to 8 pm on October 4. For details, call 5436893.
Award for Kapote: Nandkishor Kapote, a kathak dancer and director of the Nandkishor cultural academy, has been selected for the state government’s cultural award. The award, carrying a cash prize of Rs 25,000, will be presented in Nanded next month.

Talk on diabetes: The Diabetes Patients Club has organised a seminar on ‘Prevention of diabetes’ at the Balgandharva Rangmandir at 5 pm on October 3. The speakers include specialists Jagdish Hiremath, H.V. Sardesai, Nitin Unkule and Abhay Sadre. Health minister Digvijay Khanvilkar will preside.
Vijayadashami rally: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has organised a rally on the occasion of Vijayadashami at the Pune Municipal Corporation’s school grounds in Gokhalenagar at 6 pm on October 2. RSS leader Ashok Kukade and industrialist Atul Kirloskar will attend.
Nets for river purification: Garware Wall Ropes has donated mats and woven geotextiles to the Clean River Committee, an NGO involved in the removal of hyacinth from the Mula, Mutha and Pavana rivers. The company’s general manager, Venkatraman, and regional manager, Amrendra Joshi, donated the mats and nets to committee representatives Probir Sinha and Vishwas Yevale.
The donated material will be used to prevent solid waste from entering into the Pavana. The project is being implemented on the College of Military Engineering premises at Dapodi.
