PUNE: The Sinhagad police recently arrested a domestic help for stealing gold ornaments totally worth Rs 5.98 lakh from the flat of a software engineer and their neighbour residing at Prem Classic Suncity at Anandnagar on Sinhagad Road since June 8.
Nalini Ganesh Sasthe (39) from Sinhagad road was working as domestic help at the residence of Preeti Karandikar, wife of software engineer Gangadhar and neighbour Sampada Sandeep Dhawade at flat numbers 303 and 402.

Police said Sasthe started stealing ornaments from the flats in the absence of their owners. Her acts went unnoticed for more than two months. The thefts came to light after the women found their gold ornaments stolen in August last week but they did not seek explanation from the suspect.
Preeti discussed the issue of theft with Dhawade and suspected the involvement of Sasthe because leaving her nobody else had visited their residence.
Sub inspector Girish Sonawane from the Sinhagad police station said, “Preeti installed a web camera in her flat on August 27 and 28. The camera captured images of Sasthe searching valuables in the flat. On the basis of the electronic evidence her suspicion suspecting the involvement of the domestic help turned out to be true. She and her neighbour then took a call to register an FIR against her on Tuesday. The suspect was later arrested. She will in police custody remand till September 9.”
“Sasthe during interrogation told police that she had committed the theft for repaying the debt taken at the time of her elder daugther’s marraige and for meeting the medical expenses of her brother. She dosen't have criminal antecedents. Her husband is an electrician,” Sonawane added.
