PUNE: The first year students of Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha’s Dr Bhanuben Nanavati College of Architecture (BNCA) for Women, made 80 best out of waste Ganesh idols which are now on display at the college.
The idols were made up of materials including a broken computer power cable, discarded motherboards, defunct compact discs, discarded coconut shells among others.

“We laid down a primary condition for the students that the idols should be made from waste and should be in the shape of Ganapati,” the principal of BNCA Anurag Kashyap said.
The visitors can see these idols during college hours.
A professor at BNCA Kavita Murugkar told TOI, “We wanted the students to use their creativity in some way. The first year architecture course has a subject ‘basic designing’ and this was an opportunity for the students to show their skills.”
However, the task became difficult for them when the condition was announced. “It was an intangible concept and the students were supposed to think on it and give a proper shape to the idea,” she added.
One student made a Ganesh idol with shapes such as circles and triangles, while another student used fruits like sweetlime and banana. Some even used bread and chalk.
