Two girls drown after car falls into 60ft farm well
Krishnagiri: Two girls were killed after the car they were travelling in plunged into a 60ft well near Barur here on Wednesday evening.
The deceased have been identified as R Varshini, 7, and her sister Dhakshita, 3, of Housing Board Quarters in Dharmapuri.
Rajendran, 33, had gone to his relative’s house at Sellampatty near Barur in Krishnagiri district to attend a function, police said.

His relatives Thangavel, 55, Preethi, 27, Rama, 30, Varshini, 7, Dhakshita, 3, were also travelling with him in a car. Rajendran was at the wheel.
When the car neared Barur, Rajendran lost control over the vehicle at a blind turn and hit a boulder on roadside. “Later the car fell into the farm well, located adjacent to the road,” the Barur police said.
Police said Rajendran, Thangavel, Rama, Preethi managed to wriggle out of the car before it sunk in the well. “Varshini and Dakshita got stuck in the car and drowned in the well,” police said.
The Barur police and fire and rescue services personnel in Pochampalli rescued the girls. While Varshini was found dead, Dakshita was battling for life. “She had breathing issues when we rescued her from the well,” police said. Later, Dakshita died at the Pochampalli government hospital.
A case was registered by the Barur police.
