2-day National Election Commissioners’ Conference begins

BHARUCH/SURAT: The 28th all-India state election commissioners’ conference began at a tent city near the Statue of Unity at Kevadia Colony in Narmada district on Saturday. Commissioners from 22 states are participating in the two-day program.
Inaugurating the conference, Gujarat Governor O P Kohli praised Gujarat election commission's successful initiative of raising awareness among voters and asked all other states to replicate it in order to empower voters of all sections of the society.
He said that the election process has achieved several landmarks in the past 30 years.
Talking about the aims of the 2-day conference, Gujarat election commissioner Varesh Sinha said it will focus on the challenges and opportunities to make the poll process smooth and even more transparent. "Discussions will be held with senior officials of EVM manufacturing companies like Bharat Electronics Limited and Electronics Corporation of India on aspects of technology, security, design, production and other challenges. The commissioners will also discuss how to increase rate of voting among youth and women voters,” he added.
